A pizza heavy week.

I think a weekly photo dump will be the norm for this blog for a bit. Sorry to go heavy on photos and light on substance, but I have a hard time justifying putting time into lifecasting during the week when I should be cranking on work (especially since a lot of my work is just lifecasting on another outlet).

I’m supposed to be running a 10K right now and then tubing down the Catawba River for my brother’s birthday but both activities were vetoed by my doctor yesterday. I had to have a suspicious mole removed that required a bigger incision and more stitches than I was anticipating. True to form, I was a huge, highly dramatic infant about it and almost passed out. It’s no big deal but I just can’t do anything high impact (like running) or that would expose me to infection (like jumping in a dirty river) for about a week. Meh.

Here are some life snippets…

Food

I eat smoothies for breakfast probably 5-6 times a week. Some combos from this week included raspberry, banana kale and vanilla mango (my favorite). They’re all a base of 1 frozen banana, 2 cups unsweetened almond milk, 1 scoop vanilla protein powder + whatever frozen fruits and vegetables I want. I think my mango bowl topped with chia seeds and coconut looks just like the mosaic on the 10th floor parking of the deck at 7th Street Public Market.

Hummus toast was a staple this week since I had the tomatoes from my Produce Box delivery.

Nick and I have a pretty sick obsession with Ho Ho Cherry House and we get Chinese takeout probably twice a week. We paired it with a bottle of NC wine last Friday because we’re fancy.

I had a few back to back events to cover/attend Uptown one day so I staked out counter space and worked from 7th Street Public Market for a bit. Fueled by bruks bars and Not Just Coffee, the best combo.

I went to a happy hour event at Stagioni one night and ate the greatest little ball of fried cheese I’ve ever consumed. One of the passed appetizers were arancini, which are risotto balls stuffed with cheese and then deep fried. Like a delicious grown up fried cheese stick. Side note: I get stressed out at events like this when I’m holding a drink in one hand, a phone in the other and need to somehow get food into my face.

I’ve eaten a disproportionate amount of pizza this week. Nick and I got late-night Benny Pennello’s last weekend after his friend Chris’ album release show (Yung Citizen, crazy talented rapper). A new pizzeria, Pizzeria Omaggio, opened on Tuesday and I had to try it. Hung out with my friends last night at Vivace and ate flatbreads. And then Nick made a frozen pizza when we got home and I also ate that. I love pizza. I consider it a perfect food.

Charlie and I crashed a bar crawl last weekend. We dropped in when they got to Lenny Boy Brewing so I could get a strawberry kombucha. He was a big hit but taking a puppy into social situations stresses me out majorly.

I went to a lovely little brunch with my sister last weekend (hosted by Elsa Fine) and this vegan berry muffin from Sunflour has consumed my thoughts ever since. I love muffins.

Life

We signed a two-year lease on a house that we’ll move into in October. We’re pretty excited about it and also decently stressed since it’s the longest I’ll live in one place since I lived in my parents’ house. Ready for a little stability, I guess.

Charlie has started puppy preschool, which is one of the funniest things I’ve ever done. I bought a Living Social deal for The Dog Wizard program which teaches them socialization and basic commands twice a week up to 6 months of age. He did a pretty good job but is kind of an idiot.

We went to Nick’s friend Chris’ album release show. His performance name is Yung Citizen and he’s just insanely talented. Check him out.

My sister and I did an Elsa Fine personal styling session and brunch last weekend and freaking loved it. (You can read about it here.)

I tried out a new cycle studio that opened in South End this week. It’s cool because they use Real Ryder bikes that tilt and lean to simulate a more authentic road ride. (If you’re local and interested, you can read about that here.)

My friends from 704 Shop stopped by the apartment to hang and shoot some video.  They released some new designs this week so check them out.

Books

The Seven Good Years by Etgar Keret – “The seven years between the birth of Etgar Keret’s son and the death of his father were good years, though still full of reasons to worry. Lev is born in the midst of a terrorist attack. Etgar’s father gets cancer. The threat of constant war looms over their home and permeates daily life.”

  1. I’m a lover of photo dump type posts, and this even has little blurbs about life as well! Keep on doing what works for you because I’m a fan! That hummus toast looks so so amazing – adding hummus & bread on to our shopping list for the week!
