Hello! Sorry for the almost 6 weeks of dead air. I wish I had some explanation or a grand strategic plan (like a blog redesign) behind it all but the truth is the blog just experienced a natural devolution that flowed with the rest of my life as of late. As much as I struggle with what this space is and what I want to do with it, I’m not tossing it out–just taking a little break for family and work and life.
Here’s a photo-heavy look on what’s been going on the last several weeks…
I’m in a major stuff-on-toast phase that I just can’t shake (and don’t want to). It’s mostly hummus and veggies with olive oil and salt. I’m also back on the cold oats bandwagon and crave that every morning. (I do 1 mashed banana, 1/2 cup of oats, cinnamon, 1 tablespoon ground flax, 1 cup unsweetened almond milk – mix it all together and refrigerate for about an hour; top with peanut butter, coconut flakes and fruit.) I’m also really big on iced coffee at the moment. Tis the season.
This has been a family-heavy month for me. Nick graduated from law school. My brother got married. Lots of friends and family from both sides have been in and out of Charlotte and it has been awesome. I also went to a beer & burger festival, toured a rum distillery, traveled to Asheville to see Nick’s Crossfit competition and met President Obama.
I quit my job this month, which I suppose is pretty monumental. I’m now a co-founder and part owner of Charlotte Agenda and you can read all about that decision here. I have really never been happier and am very comfortable with the decision. The bigger behind-the-scenes picture of this, of course, means that we have decided to definitely stay in Charlotte. I’ve forever alluded to the idea of packing up and moving somewhere else. I can’t explain where the shift came from, but it feels really good to not be in a constant state of trying to find something better. I’m here and it’s good.
Ralph and Weaz are doing great, thanks. They celebrated their birthdays a couple weeks ago with a massive Cat Party at my house. I had about 15 of their closest friends over to my place for cupcakes and cocktails. Naturally, a quick but powerful storm blew through and knocked out the power so we just stood around sweating in the dark for the first hour or so. I think they still had fun though.
I think that covers it! I’m settling in to working for myself and from home, which takes some adjusting but I’m thrilled with it so far. I’ll be turning 30 in about 6 weeks and am actually really excited about that. And I’ve got some travel coming up (bachelorette party, visiting my parents, etc.) so I think it’ll be a good summer.
Hope all is well in your life. Thanks for hanging in there with me!
