Creamy Dill Chickpea Salad

Since accepting the fact that I simply do not like leafy green salads (sorry, body) I’ve been making all kinds of chunky, hearty diced salads and this is one of my favorites.

I guess it’s a play on tuna salad, but I hesitate to make that comparison since I’ve never had a tuna salad in my life and am thus a terrible judge. Cucumbers and celery make it fresh and crisp, and the chickpeas and walnuts add some oomph with protein for staying power. If you’re vegan you can use hummus or tahini instead of yogurt to eliminate the dairy.

Let’s do it.

Creamy Dill Chickpea Salad


  • 1 small cucumber, diced
  • 1 stalk celery, diced
  • 1 carrot, diced
  • 1 mini sweet pepper, diced
  • 1 cup chickpeas
  • 1/4 cup walnuts
  • 1/4 cup greek yogurt (sub hummus or tahini for vegan)
  • juice of 1 lemon
  • fresh or dried dill
  • salt and pepper to taste

Combine all ingredients in a bowl and stir to coat everything in the yogurt. If it’s too thick and the lemon juice doesn’t do enough to thin it out, you can add a little milk. I eat this as one serving.

That’s it! I just love the lemon-dill combo, and walnuts in just about anything make my day.

    Funny the timing of this post…I was just coming here ot suggest you look at the recipe for chickpea “tuna” salad from Isa Does Is! Will have to try this one as well, love dill. I just received a recipe this week for dill pickle soup with root veggies that I’m dying to try.

      Dill pickle soup?? I want it! I’ve always wanted to make a dirty martini with pickle juice and a pickle garnish instead of olives. Too weird?

    Would you say this is enough salad for… one person? two? I want to bring to a super bowl party!

      As an entree I ate this just for me! If it’s just a side among many other dishes I think you could double it and probably be ok… maybe triple depending on the size of the party.
