I’m probably selling Asheville really short but I’m serious when I say I only go there to eat. When I lived in Greenville, a quick hour drive up to Asheville just for lunch was never out of the question on a lazy Saturday. Now that the drive is doubled from Charlotte so are my meals when I finally get there.
In six hours I managed to squeeze in lunch, coffee, cocktails, dinner and dessert. LEGGO.
I’m terrible. Of alllll the things to eat in Asheville the first one I pick will always be Laughing Seed. I got the coconut curry cashew pate and the tempecado wrap with a side salad and basil vinaigrette.
This is one of the coolest Ashevillest things I’ve ever seen–a multi-level terrace bar on top of a building accessible only by a funky old elevator operated by a hipster in a vest handing out mini Reese’s cups. I CANNOT MAKE THIS UP. Skybar is awesome but tiny and fills up fast so we got there right at 4p to avoid the inevitable wait. There’s no actual bar; bartenders scurry around up and down the stairs delivering craft cocktails straight to your table. I had The Hummingbird (something with muddled blueberries and basil) and a glass of prosecco (because I’m BO-RING). Great view, cool experience, two thumbs up.
I have no words for this pizza. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that I was a weekday vegan last week or maybe it had something to do with the fact that it is truly the best pizza ever but… it was the best pizza ever. Too lazy to look much further than the first recommendation from the bartender, I hit the jackpot with Modesto. That’s the wilderness pizza with goat cheese, arugula, artichokes and mushrooms. It was the best thing.
Hope you all had an excellent weekend full of food. Go get ’em this week…
